In The NXT RM Over

'In The Next Room' delves into the early history of the vibrator, once used as a clinical instrument by doctors to induce orgasms in women as a "cure" for hysteria. It tackles themes such as the Victorian era's misunderstanding of female sexual desire, motherhood, breastfeeding, and jealousy.

Reimagined

In this rendition, we journey into a future where sexuality has become an overstimulated, exaggerated version of itself. Technology, particularly electricity, has evolved beyond human necessity, with devices replacing the need for human contact in every aspect of life. Human gender identities have blurred, merging into an indistinguishable confluence of traits, with only a few individuals, like Annie and Elizabeth, retaining their original gender identities.

Dr. G is an administrator of the now commonplace electrical stimulation, a job that has become increasingly challenging as his clients demand newer, more intense experiences. His spouse, Ms. G, a hybrid individual transcending traditional gender norms, yearns for something that's been lost for centuries - genuine human touch. Could Annie, representing the suppressed orgasms of the wo-man, possibly help reintroduce the power of human touch into their lives?

The chosen approach was a loosely based, satirical comedy to offer a fresh take on the original narrative. The aim was to create a piece that would not only entertain audiences but also stimulate conversations and perhaps even spark interest in the original play. While the original play covertly addresses women's hysteria and sexual desire, the adaptation unabashedly showcases these themes, humorously highlighting that even in the face of the most exciting bedroom 'toys,' women are still considered hysterical. This is exemplified in a memorable line from the script, "Toys, toys and toys, can’t a wo-man get a decent penis around here?"

“I was lost but now have found paradise.”

Ms. D is weary of the monotonous and even extreme experiences, desiring something different yet elusive. During one of the Dr.'s sessions, Annie steps in, guiding her towards an unfamiliar yet enticing realm. In a conversation with Annie, she expresses her confusion, "What's this sensation? I've been with a wo-man before, so why is this so different?" To which Annie replies, "Dear, it takes a real woman to know one.".

“Something is wrong with my wife! Fix her!!”

Mr. D. has come to Dr. G. to ask him to fix his wife who seems to be broken. She seems to lack interest in their usual electric simulation plays. He can’t entertain guests in his usual sexual parties with a broken partner. He hasn’t have the slightest clue of what’s going on and seems to have taken a interest in Ms. G, specially when she states she wants to try something taboo. “They don’t call me Mr. D for any old reason, they cum to my parties and I give them what they want – though they do the first part more usually.”

“No one understands me…”

Ms. G- All she wants is to be touched, pollenated, watered, (dance/song number: Dr. G-spot giving doesn’t know his wo-man) She has a curious desire to feel human contact, but people think she is crazy until she convinces Dr. G to finally find her G with his own hands. During a conversation with Elizabeth and Ms. D “I don’t know why he’s my better half if im the half that knows my needs better.”

As humans we constantly want more and more, but at the end we just want a human’s touch. I wanted to do something big and bright, while keeping small touches of the century the original play took part in. Deconstructed suits from the time era, stripped into bare bones or bedazzled to death, bare bustles, and silhouettes until they unwrap themselves at the end for the final piece.

“My work is never done.”

Mr. G Has bitten more than he can chew, his patients demands continue to escalate with each successive session. He doesn’t think he can satisfy them anymore, until he hires a mysterious woman who teaches him “the way”. Dr. G is confronted by Annie who is asking why doesn’t he touch his patient instead of electrical simulation? – “Human touching that’s absurd, they’ll think I’m crazy as when Edison invented the light b-bulb…..oh damn it’s brilliant!”

“I’ll show you paradise.”

Annie is the manifestation of wo-man’s repressed orgasms who is helping Dr. G with his patients though he doesn’t know she is behind the scenes. She is trying to unrepressed wo-man’s sexual desire needed to be touched. She will show “the way” to all. Annie’s dance final is titled “Let me bring you to paradise.”

“ Wo, women, men they’re all the same to me”

Leo is confused, he doesn’t know what he is anymore. He is what humanity has turned into a ball of every fetish, kink, and addiction there is and yet he feels unsatisfied with it all. He holds dear in his heart his father who was a real man’s man. He wishes to change and become one himself, he is struggling with identity. Annie to Leo “It takes a real gentleman to let a woman finish first, what you desire is to be loved and touched. Touched in a way that is love and not just sex.”

“Let me pollinate you”

Elizabeth is one of the last human women left, whose sole purpose in life is to try to convince people it is ok procreate. She was hired by Ms. G. to take care of what she assumes to be a child but comes into realization that humanity is a loss, when she finds a robot baby instead. Upon entering the room to find a robotic baby doll to Ms. G. “You can’t substitute this for a real baby, What you need is the real thing…. *looks up and down* In more ways than one.”
